What parts of Modrinth is your feature request related too?
Modrinth.com website, Modrinth API for developers
Is your suggested feature related to a problem? Please describe.
In our case, we maintain a separate mod ecosystem built around a custom loader called FishModLoader, which is specifically designed for Minecraft 1.6.4 (including the MITE ecosystem). This loader behaves similarly to a “legacy Fabric-like” mod loading framework.
Without official recognition or at least a selectable loader tag, it becomes difficult to properly filter, organize, and distribute compatible mods within Modrinth’s ecosystem.
Describe the solution you'd like
We would like Modrinth to add FishModLoader as an optional selectable mod loader for Minecraft 1.6.4.
This does not need to affect existing loaders or modern versions. A simple additional loader option/tag would be sufficient,
Game version: 1.6.4
Mod loader: FishModLoader
This would allow modpacks and mods targeting FishModLoader to be correctly categorized and filtered.
Our community has already built an ecosystem around this loader, including approximately 150+ mods currently maintained under this framework.
Describe alternatives you've considered
We considered the following alternatives:
Using “No loader / Vanilla” tagging → not accurate and breaks compatibility filtering
Mislabeling as Legacy Fabric→ misleading and technically incorrect
Hosting outside Modrinth → fragments the ecosystem and reduces discoverability
None of these alternatives provide proper compatibility signaling for users or modpack tools.
Additional context
FishModLoader is a custom mod loader specifically designed for Minecraft 1.6.4-MITE, acting as a lightweight, Fabric-like loading framework for legacy environments.

https://github.com/MinecraftIsTooEasy/FishModLoader
Our goal is not to replace existing loaders, but to provide accurate metadata support so Modrinth can correctly represent this ecosystem and allow modpacks/tools to filter compatibility reliably.
Additionally, the MITE ecosystem has a roughly estimated active player base of around 100,000 users, with a long-running and established modding community built around FishModLoader and related tooling.
